Integrated Women's Health Hubs

Queensland Health is investing $20.4 million over four years to establish two Integrated Women’s Health Hubs in Caboolture and Cairns South.

First Nations led community organisation Wuchopperen Health Service Limited and South East Queensland provider Micah Projects Limited were chosen from a rigorous process and criteria for the health hubs.

Wuchopperen Health Service Limited provides health and community services in Cairns, delivering domestic and family violence support groups, women, children and maternal health clinics and social support for all ages.

Micah Projects Limited provides services, including the Integrated Health and Wellness Hub that supports all disadvantaged people, and the Caboolture Young Mother’s for Young Women program.

The Hubs will provide women and girls access to health and health-related care and support through:

  • Creation of a safe, private, women-friendly space
  • Provision of flexible, holistic care
  • Simplicity of service navigation
  • Free services
  • A diverse workforce (e.g., First Nations health practitioners)
  • Increased time spent with patients and clients
  • Outreach and targeted programs.

The hubs will provide services such as:

  • Advice on general health issues and specific women’s health issues such as sexual and reproductive health and gynaecological conditions
  • Counselling and social services;
  • Support and referral for women experiencing the impact of domestic, family and sexual violence.
  • Capacity building for women and girls to improve confidence to access mainstream health services
  • Access to a pharmacy
  • Access to immunisations and opportunistic health screening, and
  • Visiting services may be negotiated between providers including specialist/nursing/allied health consultations

Women and girls will be able to walk into services, without an appointment.

The Hubs will be open from 0800 to 1800 Monday to Friday.

An evaluation of the Hub pilots will commence later in 2025.

The tenders were awarded in September and the health hubs are expected to be operational from late 2024 and early 2025.
