Approval to enter into special financial arrangements

On 15 December 2022 the Children’s Hospital Foundation was approved to enter into a special financial arrangement as defined by section 52 of the Hospital Foundations Act 2018.

  6. research or arrange or promote research (including surveys relevant to health service or hospital functions) into and development of any branch of medical science, technological research, medical investigation or other matter concerning the health or wellbeing of people, with a view to general improvement in health services;
  7. provide money grants or loans for persons engaged in research at postgraduate level in medical or any other health science (including surveys relevant to any such science);
  8. provide money grants or loans for research or surveys relative to the functions, duties, management and administration of hospitals and for any public health service other than a hospital;
  9. arrange for research and development work in specific matters related to the health of people and to arrange for production and marketing of anything that results from such research or development work;
  10. invite lecturers renowned for their knowledge or expertise in any aspect of health care or the wellbeing of people to deliver instruction on such aspect and to finance the appearance of such a lecturer;
  11. do anything, relevant to the fields of medicine or health care, that is likely to be to the betterment of health services generally or of the administration of an associated hospital;
  12. develop, manage, purchase and undertake business organisations which will provide from their operation income to the Foundation which will assist the Foundation in achieving its objects.

Primary Objects:  

Those objects, as identified in the Hospitals Foundations Act 1982 (Qld), are for the relief of poverty and distress of humans in Queensland caused by illness or disease.

Secondary Objects: 

To exist as a charitable, not-for-profit, public benevolent institution and to function as such, with excellence, for the purpose of achieving the Primary Objects.

To acquire, manage and apply property and income arising therefrom to continuing objects within or associated with the Gold Coast Hospital in respect of the health and well-being of people, provision of improved facilities for education in medicine and preventive medicine, the discovery of the nature, origins and causes of disease, research into and development of branches of medical and other health sciences, technological research with a view to general improvement in health services and the production and marketing of results of research and development.

If it shall be thought desirable by the Board in its discretion and subject to such by-laws as shall from time to time be made by the Board shall institute and provide lectures and demonstrations and hold examinations and issue certificates to those having passed such examinations to all persons desirous of acquiring knowledge in subjects which may be under investigation by the PA Research Foundation, both to members of the Medical profession and to persons who are not members of the Medical profession on such occasions as shall be deemed expedient;
  4. To make known when and as the institute shall deem advisable by printed publication or otherwise any information or advice concerning any matter relating to the purposes of the PA Research Foundation and with a view there to acquire, set up, maintain, print, publish and circulate magazines and journals, circular pamphlets or other literary or scientific work as the Board shall deem to be in any way beneficial to the PA Research Foundation or to the public or any section thereof;
  5. To establish and support or aid in the establishment and support of any charitable or benevolent associations or institutions connected with the purpose of the PA Research Foundation;
