Governance resources

The Good Practice Guide for Hospital and Health Boards includes helpful information for board members and an overview of how the health system works. This material complements existing local HHS induction processes available to newly appointed board members.

The Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Welcome Aboard: A Guide for Members of Queensland Government Boards, Committee and Statutory Authorities provides an overview of the role of government bodies and the responsibilities of those who serve the community as Government board members.

Queensland Health also has an orientation program in place for new board members which typically occurs after major appointment rounds.

The Office of Health Statutory Agencies Board Busters videos are available for new or existing board members to assist with orientation into the health system and the board roles.

Queensland Health Performance and Accountability Framework

The Framework operates in accordance with the Hospital and Health Boards Act 2011, the National Health Reform Agreement and the Mater Public Health Services Act 2008. It describes the contextual, strategic and operational aspects of monitoring and improving the performance of both our health services and the health system in Queensland.

Service agreements

There is a service agreement in place between the Department of Health and each Hospital and Health Service (HHS).

The service agreement sets out the services that are to be provided by the HHS and the funding that the HHS will receive for the delivery of these services. It also defines the outcomes that the HHS will deliver and how its performance will be measured.

The current service agreements and deeds of amendment cover the period from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2025.
