Queensland Stay On Your Feet® Toolkit - Falls prevention in action
Queensland Stay On Your Feet Wide Bay/Burnett trial project
An objective of the Queensland Stay on Your Feet Wide Bay/Burnett trial project was to increase falls prevention activities among the target group and key stakeholders. To evaluate its impact, the project used a pre and post computer assisted telephone interview (CATI) survey. You can download these surveys here:
- Queensland Stay on Your Feet Computer Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI) pre-survey
- Queensland Stay on Your Feet Computer Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI) post-survey
Evaluation found that the Queensland Stay on Your Feet Wide Bay/Burnett trial project had the following impacts:
- older people increased their regular moderate physical activity and wore safer shoes
- more people disagreed with the statement “older people fall and nothing can be done about it”
- falls prevention strategies were developed and included in five local council plans
- local footpaths and walkways were built to support physical activity
- Nordic Pole walking on the beach was encouraged, resulting in friendships between ambassadors
- an increase in local councils and other organisations providing physical activity programs.
