Investigation into recruitment and credentialing at Mackay Hospital and Health Service

On 24 January 2025, Queensland Health commissioned an independent Health Service Investigation under Part 9 of the Hospital and Health Boards Act 2011 into medical officer recruitment and credentialing at Mackay Hospital and Health Service (HHS).

The investigation will examine the Hospital and Health Service’s compliance with medical officer recruitment and selection and credentialing over a two-year period up to December 2024 to determine if processes were adhered to and if improvements can be made.

This will include consideration of appointment practices to ensure medical officers have been credentialed to practise within the bounds of their role, education, training, experience and competence, and within the capacity, capability and available support of the facility or service in which they are practising.
