Sun safety at school and early childhood settings
Protecting children’s skin from sun exposure is the best way to reduce the risk of developing skin cancer later in life.
Early childhood education and care facilities and primary schools are key settings to influence and educate, and begin lifelong sun safe behaviours.
While sun protective behaviours may be well-practiced during primary school years, they may be practiced less in adolescence. Secondary schools are an ideal environment to engage teenagers about the importance of sun safe practices.
Shade grants
Queensland Health, through the SunSmart Shade Creation Initiative offers funding (up to maximum of $25,000) to eligible not-for-profit organisations for the construction of permanent shade structures.
