Queensland's mental health, alcohol and other drug plans and strategies

Queensland Health and the Queensland Mental Health Commission work in partnership with people with lived experience, other government departments, non-government organisations and other industry partners to develop plans and strategies to improve the mental health and wellbeing of Queenslanders.

  • Better Care Together

Our Better Care Together plan for Queensland’s state-funded mental health, alcohol and other drug services to 2027 sets the strategic directions and priorities across the state-funded mental health, alcohol and other drug service system. It aims to advance health care and outcomes for people experiencing mental ill health, problematic alcohol and other drug use, and mental health crisis including suicidality.

  • Digital information strategy

Our Digital Information Strategy to 2027 sets out how we're transforming mental health, alcohol and other drugs care by investing in innovative digital health solutions.

  • Achieving balance

We’re committed to preventing and reducing problematic use of alcohol and other drugs. Our alcohol and other drugs plan to 2027 has 5 strategic priorities including prevention and early intervention, enhancing treatment and support systems, expanding diversion and reducing harm.

  • Shifting minds

Our Shifting minds strategic plan to 2028 sets the vision and direction towards achieving a whole-of-community, whole-of-person and whole-of-system approach to mental health and wellbeing.

  • Every life

Our whole-of-government suicide prevention plan to 2029 focuses on creating and supporting a healthy and inclusive Queensland where everyone can access the support they need, achieve positive mental health and wellbeing and live their lives with meaning and purpose.

Our priorities

  • Head to Health Kids

Head to Health Kids – Queensland services are available in the Brisbane and Gold Coast regions and offer a range of specialist supports for children experiencing mental health and wellbeing concerns including development, behavioural or emotional challenges.

  • New residential rehabilitation and withdrawal services

We're building new alcohol and other drugs treatment centres to support people with problematic substance use. The new centres are in Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Cairns and Ipswich and will offer a range of services to help people get recovery-orientated care.
