The Mental Health Act 2016 sets out the reporting and administration requirements for authorised mental health services (AMHSs). The requirements apply to:

  • AMHS administrators
  • authorised doctors
  • authorised mental health practitioners
  • other persons carrying out a function under the Mental Health Act 2016.

The Chief Psychiatrist has developed the following policies to support compliance with the Mental Health Act 2016.

Reporting on the Mental Health Act 2016

The Chief Psychiatrist is required to report on the administration of the Mental Health Act 2016 in their annual report. The report includes data about how many people get treatment or care under the Mental Health Act 2016 at authorised mental health services.
