Background

Julian’s Key was first developed by West Moreton Hospital and Health Service in memory of a young man with intellectual and physical disability, Mr Julian Klass.

In 2019, Julian’s Key was adopted by Queensland Health and trialled at Ipswich and Logan Hospitals.

In 2024, following extensive consumer and clinician engagement, a revised tool was released. This tool aims to improve the accessibility of information within the tool making it more applicable across a wide variety of settings and healthcare needs.

Queensland Health is currently working with users to understand their needs and design a digital solution for Julian’s Key Health Passport. The main goal is to create a user-friendly platform that makes it easier for people to complete and manage their health information.

How does it work?

Julian’s Key Health Passport includes important details about patients, such as how a patient communicates their support and care needs. This allows healthcare staff to quickly access the information they need to provide them with the best care.

Who is it for?

Julian’s Key Health Passport is for everyone. It helps all Queenslanders, especially those who need extra support, to communicate with healthcare staff.
