Emergency Response Packs

New Standardised Emergency Response Packs Now Available for Rural and Remote Facilities

The Office of Rural and Remote Health (ORRH) is pleased to announce the availability of standardised Emergency Response Packs (ERPs) primarily for use in Level 1 and 2 rural and remote health facilities across Queensland. The implementation of these ERPs marks a significant step towards enhancing patient safety and ensuring consistent, evidence-based emergency care in our most isolated communities.

Standardised Emergency Response Packs

The development of the physical ERPs was a result of recommendations following the 2022 review of the RRESS guidelines. The lack of standardised physical packs led to safety concerns from loose or missing items, non-color-coded pockets, and altered contents. The new ERPs help address these concerns by providing a clear, consistent, and comprehensive solution to store emergency response resources consistently and safely.

Benefits of the physical ERPs

  • Improved Patient Safety: Color-coded pockets and standardised contents enable quick and easy access to critical items during time-sensitive emergencies.
  • Consistency of Care: Standardised packs ensure that clinicians, regardless of their movement between locations, are familiar with the contents and layout, promoting efficient and effective emergency response.
  • Enhanced Collaboration: Standardised packs facilitate seamless collaboration between Queensland Health facilities and external partners.
  • Comprehensive Contents: The ERPs include all essential items for airway management, breathing support, circulation, and medication administration, as outlined in the RRESS guidelines.
  • Colour-Coded Organisation: Clear labelling and colour-coded pockets facilitate rapid identification and retrieval of necessary equipment. Colour-coding is in line with our QAS and RFDS partners.
  • Durable and Portable: With durable handles and backpack straps, the packs are designed for rugged use and easy transport.
  • Secure Storage: The packs include tab lockable compartments for controlled medications, ensuring compliance and safety.
