The course equips you with the essential knowledge and skills to work in a public or private hospital sterilising service or reprocessing department and covers:

  • managing the sterilisation of equipment in a sterilisation/reprocessing service
  • infection prevention and control
  • workplace health and safety practices
  • communicating and working effectively in a team.

On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded the HLT37015 Certificate III in Sterilisation Services qualification.

This course prepares you for a rewarding career in maintaining safe and sterile healthcare environments. Hospital and healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are the most common complication affecting patients in hospital. As well as causing unnecessary pain and suffering for patients and their families, these adverse events prolong hospital stays and are costly to the healthcare system.

Entry requirements

This course is designed for students working in a sterilising service or reprocessing department whilst completing their studies (e.g. central sterilising department, oral health, theatre). You must be able to demonstrate a minimum of 120 hours of practical application through:

  • evidence of your current employment status with a sterilising service or reprocessing department; or
  • a letter of support from the Manager of a sterilising service or reprocessing department who is prepared to provide you with regular shifts whilst completing the course.

Apply

Entry into this course is by an application and selection process. Your application will be assessed by our team and you will receive an offer with a commencement date, if successful. Payment is not required until you receive and accept an offer.

Once offered a place in a cohort, payment must be received within 3 weeks of the offer to secure a place in the course. If not received within 3 weeks, the offer will be transferred to another applicant and your application transferred to a future cohort.

You will need to upload supporting documents as part of your application:

  1. Current resume
  2. Letter of support from the Manager of the sterilising service or reprocessing department for which you are currently employed or will provide you with regular shifts whilst completing the course.
