Multicultural Mental Health Coordinator support
The Multicultural Mental Health Coordinator program is a statewide program integrated with the Queensland Transcultural Mental Health Centre. Multicultural Mental Health Coordinators (MMHCs) are employed by local mental health services and respond to the needs of consumers from diverse cultural backgrounds at a local level.
What MMHCs do
MMHCs assist mental health care professionals in delivering culturally appropriate care by:
- participating in case discussions
- performing joint assessments and reviews of case management
- sharing information about multicultural organisations that take referrals
- providing information on access to specialist multicultural resources
- delivering cultural competency training to mental health Hospital and Health Service staff
- helping organisations create quality and safety policies and procedures
- strengthening mental health services' abilities to be culturally responsive to their patients’ needs.
