2025 Free Flu Vaccination Program
All Queensland residents 6 months of age or older can access influenza vaccine for free in 2025 under this Queensland government funded program.
The 2025 Free Flu Vaccination Program runs from 1 March to 30 September 2025.
While vaccine supply may be limited initially, additional stock will arrive progressively throughout the program period. Vaccination providers are encouraged to offer influenza vaccination opportunistically to eligible Queenslanders.
Eligibility and vaccine administration
The 2025 Queensland Free Flu Vaccination Program is available to all Queensland residents, regardless of Medicare eligibility.
It is the Queensland Government’s expectation that no patient is out-of-pocket for receiving a flu vaccination.
NIP eligible people
There are no changes for people already eligible for free influenza vaccine under the NIP. Vaccination providers should continue to administer NIP vaccines to NIP eligible cohorts.
Providers will continue to receive NIP-funded influenza vaccines directly from the Queensland Health Immunisation Program (QHIP). Registration with QHIP is a requirement for access to NIP vaccines.
Non-NIP-eligible people
For people not eligible for free influenza vaccine under the NIP. Vaccination providers should continue to administer influenza vaccine from their privately purchased stock.
Providers should note that unadministered stock from the current season cannot be reimbursed.
Co-administration with COVID-19 vaccine
People can receive their COVID-19 vaccine at the same time as their influenza vaccine. For more information, refer to the Australian Immunisation Handbook.
Reimbursement details
Vaccination providers will be able to seek reimbursement from Queensland Health for influenza vaccines under the same arrangements as the 2024 program.
Important notes:
- Providers should make every effort to ensure people who are eligible for a NIP-funded influenza vaccine, receive a NIP influenza vaccine. Queensland Health may not reimburse claims for privately purchased influenza vaccines administered to NIP eligible people.
- Vaccination providers should continue to order vaccines through their usual processes.
- Reimbursement of influenza vaccines will only apply to vaccines administered to Queensland residents between 1 March and 30 September 2025.
- Reimbursement submissions should be made no more frequently than fortnightly.
- The final reimbursement submission deadline is 31 October 2025 and requests received after this date will not be paid.
- Providers cannot claim reimbursement for private stock not administered.
- Reimbursements will be paid on a regular basis and Queensland Health will endeavour to reimburse as soon as possible upon receipt of the required information. Delays may occur due to the volume of requests. Providing the correct documentation at the time of the initial request will minimise delays in the validation and reimbursement process.
- Queensland Health may verify the accuracy of the information in the reimbursement claim, including accessing submitted data and requesting/obtaining information from suppliers/vaccine recipients.
Vaccine reimbursement for privately-purchased vaccines
There will be a fixed rate reimbursement fee of $25 (excluding GST) for each privately purchased and administered influenza vaccine to non-NIP eligible people during the life of the Program.
Administration reimbursement for NIP vaccines
Vaccination providers not able to claim a Medical Benefit Schedule fee or NIP Vaccinations In Pharmacy (NIPVIP) Program reimbursement (e.g. community pharmacies administering NIP-funded vaccines to children aged 6 months to less than five years of age) can seek reimbursement of $19.32 (excluding GST) for each NIP influenza vaccine administered.
Vaccination providers can use the decision tool below to determine what reimbursement pathway can be claimed under the 2025 Free Flu Vaccination Program.
