Clinical protocols and guidelines for the Scope of Practice Pilot

Queensland Health has developed clinical practice guidelines and protocols to guide pharmacists in managing the conditions and services included in the Queensland Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot.

These protocols and guidelines detail the parameters of the pharmacist intervention or service, including requirements for:

  • assessment and investigations
  • therapeutic and non-therapeutic management
  • monitoring and review
  • referral and collaboration with other members of the patient’s multidisciplinary health care team.

Participating pharmacists must, when prescribing a medicine under the pilot, conduct the recommended clinical assessment and management of the indication in accordance with the relevant guideline or protocol. This requirement is set out in the Extended Practice Authority—Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot.
