Training requirements
Pharmacists are required to successfully complete additional education and training through an accredited education provider to participate in the Queensland Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot. This involves completing 2 training components:
- Prescribing training
This component covers the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the National Prescribing Service (NPS) Medicinewise Prescribing Competencies Framework. - Clinical practice training
This component covers the clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of the conditions included within the scope of the Pilot.

Prescribing training
- Queensland University of Technology—Safe prescribing and quality use of medicines course
- James Cook University—Extended community practice pharmacists course (subject PC6300).
Clinical practice training
- James Cook University—Extended community practice pharmacists course (subjects PC6100 and PC6200).

Training subsidy
The Queensland Government has committed $6 million to support community pharmacists undertaking training for the Queensland Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot.
The funding is being administered on behalf of the Queensland Government by the Australasian College of Pharmacy, as a training subsidy to pharmacists completing endorsed training programs for the Queensland Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot.
