About the project
The History of First Nations Health Workers project profiles, documents, and showcases the unique role, contribution, and cultural leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers across the Queensland health system and reference the evolution of policy to accord with cultural ethics across the period.
The project forms part of the comprehensive work of the First Nations Workforce Taskforce, to create pathways to achieve health workforce targets, increase the capacity and capability of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforces and embed cultural practices across the health system.
The project provides the historical background to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health worker role and provides insights that may be drawn upon to inform and support future reform of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce. The project links to the overarching First Nations health equity reform agenda and Queensland Health system priorities and outcomes.
