Winners in the Queensland Mental Health Achievement Awards 2011 have now been decided.
The Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs Directorate hosted the Queensland Mental Health Achievement Awards 2011 on Friday 14 October at Hillstone St Lucia.
The Awards recognise outstanding individuals and organisations that have helped raise public awareness of the importance of mental wellbeing, improved the delivery of mental health services and promoted greater social inclusion of Queenslanders living with mental illness.
The theme of this year's Awards, 'from little things, big things grow', acknowledged the importance of each nominee's contribution, no matter how small or large.
Queensland Health proudly partnered with Open Minds in staging the Awards, with the annual Open Minds Earle Duus Award again incorporated into the program. The winners of each Awards category (other than the Media category) are eligible to receive this additional honour, in recognition of their valuable contribution to the mental health and wellbeing of Queenslanders.
Mental Health Week runs from Sunday 7 - Saturday 13 October 2012.
Mental Health Week is an annual national awareness event held every year to coincide with World Mental Health Day, which is held on 10 October each year.
Mental Health Week aims to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and wellbeing in the wider community.
Local and regional Mental Health Week events organised by local groups and communities contribute to reducing the stigma associated with mental ill health and offer a platform to engage the community in dialogue regarding help-seeking behaviours and mental health promotion.
