In Queensland public mental health services are provided through Queensland Health’s Health Service Districts.
Strategic policy and program direction is provided by the Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs Directorate who are responsible for developing, managing and coordinating Queensland Health policy in relation to mental health, alcohol and other drugs.

While the physical and social conditions for people with mental illness have greatly improves, stigma and discrimination continue to contribute to their isolation and social disadvantage.
