Queensland Tobacco Laws

Nobody smokes here anymore logoQueensland's tobacco laws aim to reduce the public's exposure to environmental tobacco smoke, contribute to a culture that supports smokers trying to quit, and discourage young people from taking up the habit.

Reforms to Queensland's tobacco legislation, the Tobacco and Other Smoking Products Act 1998, occurred in 2004 as part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to address tobacco smoking.

The changes to the tobacco legislation saw the introduction of smoke-free laws for indoor and outdoor places, further restrictions on tobacco advertising and display in retail outlets, and significant increases in all penalties including for breaches of the sales to minor laws.
